Art amateur* 

 

I get inspiration for paintings and drawings from everyday things. Stories, newspaper articles, conversations or found objects, anything can 'spark' me... and when it starts to itch between my fingers, I have to make a painting or drawing.

 

Because I don't work towards an image or idea, most sketches remain in a book, or disappear under the layer of paint of another painting. However, more and more often, I manage to 'finish' a work... A work is 'finished' when my inspiration runs out and the work can exist independently.

 

This works differently with my photography. I don't need inspiration for that. I suddenly see an image, often in nature, that is already finished, already ready. Then I immediately see the image in front of me and all I have to do is capture it...

 

As I said before, I do not work towards an idea or image. I do not have an end result in mind. Therefore, I cannot tell you what something "should" represent. I can only say something about what the inspiration was for a particular painting. Where possible, I have tried to describe this next to the works.

 

I work with water-based oil paint (Cobra), acrylic paint, charcoal and pastel chalk. For my photography I use Pentax K-5II or a Fairphone.
